Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions about Passport Services

What should I do first if my Indian passport is lost or stolen?
File a police report (FIR) as soon as you realise your passport is lost or stolen — it is a required document for a replacement. If your passport was damaged rather than lost, keep the damaged booklet, as it must be submitted with your application. Then place your order and VisaHQ will prepare and submit the re-issue request for you.
What documents do I need to replace a lost or damaged Indian passport?
You need the FIR or police report, an affidavit in the prescribed format (Annexure F), a statement explaining how the passport was lost or damaged, proof of present address and proof of date of birth, plus self-attested copies of all documents. If the passport is damaged and still available, include the original booklet's first two and last two pages, the ECR/Non-ECR page and any valid visa page.
Does anything change if my lost or damaged passport had already expired?
The process is similar and is still handled as a re-issue, but an expired passport is treated slightly differently from a still-valid one. You will generally provide the same FIR, affidavit and loss statement, along with whatever old-passport pages are available; for an expired booklet the ECR page may not be required. There are also separate replacement options for expired child passports and for minors aged 15 to 18. VisaHQ confirms the exact document set for your situation.
How long does a replacement take, and what does VisaHQ charge?
Most replacement applications are processed and delivered in about 4–7 business days once we receive your documents, including the police report. VisaHQ charges its own service fee to prepare and submit your application; the official passport fee is charged separately by the Passport Seva Kendra / Ministry of External Affairs.
