Malawi Tourism e Visa
The tourism e-visa is issued for tourism purposes as a single-entry or multiple-entry visa. With a Single-entry visa you are only allowed to use it once, after which you will have to apply for a new one should you decide to visit Malawi again. You can use it for sightseeing, to spend your holidays, to visit family and friends, or to attend festivals and other social events. This visa is valid for 90 days and allows for a maximum duration of 30 days stay as a single entry document.
However, if you would like to stay for much longer or you plan to visit frequently, you may need to go for the multiple entry visa, which allows you to stay for 6-12 months, depending on your plans.
Furthermore, applicants are expected to have passports that will remain valid for the next six months as a bare minimum if they are to qualify for the tourism e-visa.

Malawi Visa Policy
According to the visa policy of Malawi, unless in the case of visa-exempt visitors from eligible countries, all other visitors planning to visit the country must first apply for visas to gain entry. The Malawian government issues visas through its embassies, online, and through a special visa-on-arrival program. Currently, the Malawian government allows citizens from selected countries to stay in Malawi for up to 90 days without visas.
Visa exempt visitors can visit any passport free zone in the country but they cannot work or study in the country unless they apply for a work or study visa. Work visas come with work and resident permitsm
Malawi Visa On Arrival
Malawi still issues visas on arrival to nationals from selected countries who arrive in Lilongwe without visas. Although the criteria for issuing this type of visa are still unclear and inconsistent, the program is still running. Visa on arrival can be issued depending on the purpose of the visit, and it is granted either as a Visitor Permit or a Business Visit visa which are both valid for 30 days but can be extended for a further 90 days.
According to the Immigration Department, visitors from all countries, excluding a few countries, may apply for a visa on arrival unless their country is not on the visa-exempt list. Before traveling to Malawi without a visa make sure you check the list of eligible countries.
Malawi e Visa
The Malawian government has a special e-visa program for nationals of more than 200 countries of the world. This program is open to almost all global citizens except stateless persons. The e-visas are issued as a single or multiple entry visa with a 90-day validity.
Key Information About The Malawi Online Visa
Documents Must Have Matching Dates: When applying for a Malawian online visa, your documents must have matching dates. For instance, if you book a hotel reservation, the check-in and check-out dates must match the information you have on your visa. The same is the case for your flight ticket, and the arrival and departure date must correspond with what you have on your visa.
Print The E Visa: Once the e-visa is approved and forwarded to your email inbox, make sure to print it out and bring it along on your trip to Malawi. Although the immigration officials will be able to generate the visa using your biometric information, it is always best to bring a copy along in case of a system failure.
Unvaccinated Travelers: Although there is no active Covid mandate in Malawi, you will need to provide a negative PCR test result if you have not been vaccinated or a COVID-19 vaccination certificate if you have. The same is required for children who are 12 years and above. The PCR test must be conducted at least 72 hours before your trip.
Requirements For Minors: Traveling with minors have special requirements. If the minor is your child, you must provide a civil status certificate, like a birth certificate, to prove your parental identity. If the minor is not your child, you will need to provide proof of parental consent documents signed by both parents.
No Shared Form: Two persons cannot use the same application form; it must be one person to a form. Children must also have their own form, which their parents can fill out for them.
Not For Work: An online visa is not for work, so you are not allowed to work while in the country. If you have any intention to work, do well to apply for a work visa at the nearest Malawian foreign mission. E visas are only for business, tourism, and transit.
Don’t Overstay: Make sure you don’t overstay beyond the approved number of days. If you suspect that you will stay for much longer because of your engagement, visit the nearest local immigration office and apply for an extension.
Application Fee: The application fee must be paid before you can submit the form for processing. Since the application is done online you can't pay the fee with cash. Fees must be paid with your credit or debit card.
Applying For Extension: When applying for an extension of your e visa by a few more weeks you must explain in your letter the reason why you want your stay extended. If you are here on business you must attach evidence to your letter and make sure it is signed. There is also a fee attached to the application.
Use The Same Passport: Another thing to note is that the passport you use for the application must be the one you travel to Malawi with. If you travel with a different passport you will not be allowed into the country.
