What people say about us
Greece Visa Policy
Greece is a member of the European Union and also a Schengen country that operates the same visa and immigration policy similar to other Schengen countries in the continent. By signing the Schengen Agreement, Greece accepts passport-free trips for citizens of other Schengen countries, while Greek citizens may also travel to other member states. Visitors coming to Greece from outside Europe must apply for a Schengen visa unless they are from visa-exempt countries.
The official policy of the Creek government outlines the requirements and restrictions placed on foreign nationals coming to Greece and how they must conduct themselves during their time in the country. Furthermore, nationality plays a major role in determining a visitor's duration of stay and why they will require it.
Schengen Visa of Greece
Greece is an official member of the Schengen Area, so it is eligible to issue Schengen visas to foreigners. This visa is issued to persons from non-visa-exempt countries by Greek foreign missions abroad in advance before they make the trip. The applicant must select the type of visa they want from among a long list of options. Also, the information and documents they must provide will depend on the type of visa they opt for. Schengen visas allow the visitor to stay in Greece for 90 days maximum.
Furthermore, the holder can travel to any of the otter Schengen countries with the same visa, including a few other non-Schengen countries in Europe that have adopted some elements of the Schengen policy.
Greece Visa Exemption
The country's visa waiver policy is always changing as countries are added and removed from the list. That is why travelers are advised to consult the to check for their country because they will know whether they require visas for their trip or not. Visa-exempt visitors can visit Greece briefly if they are coming for business, tourism, or merely passing through as transit visitors en route to another country.
Before now, visa-free visitors only needed a passport for three months from the date of arrival for their 90 days visits, but that will no longer be the case in 2024 as electronic travel authorization will be required.
Greece ETIAS
The European Commission announced the launch of a new electronic travel program called the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS). This online travel authorization system is designed to secure the borders of European countries by tracking the movement of migrants coming from selected countries.
This policy only affects citizens of visa-exempt countries visiting Europe for short visits. The commission has set a testing phase from May to December 2023, but from the start of 2024, all visa-exempt visitors must apply for ETIAS before boarding flights heading for Europe. ETIAS is a multiple-entry document approved by all 26 members of the Schengen Union and is available online.
Applicants don't have to visit a Greek embassy or the embassy of any member nation abroad:
They only need to complete the application form online and submit it for approval. Processing takes only a few minutes, and the approval will be sent to the applicant's email address. With this document, they can travel to Greece and tour other Schengen nations with the same visa if they so wish.
Key Information About Greece ETIAS
When applying for Greek ETIAS, there are some vital details you should bear in mind, and we review them below.
Apply Outside Greece: You can't apply for Etias when you are inside the country; this approval is only allowed when you are outside the country. Furthermore, you can only apply for ETIAS in the Schengen region.
Primary Destination: You should only apply for a Greek ETIAS if that will be the first country you will visit before traveling to many other countries. Just like Schengen visas, the primary destination condition applies.
90/180 Rule: Visitors cannot stay in Greece for more than 90 days in a 180 days cycle during their visit. The rule states that visitors from a visa-exempt country can enter Greece or any other country without a visa, but they can't stay beyond the 3 months.
